As if to parallel the tactility of the earth’s surface, Isham leaves traces of impasto in crosshatching of vital coloration: deep greens and reds, vibrant purple and magenta, explosive yellows and blues animate the surface in these abstract works. Spatial concerns are clear—from the criss-crossing that both projects and recedes, as if an optical and tactile experience of surface combines Abstract Expressionist gestures with the foregrounding of intense coloration.
