Studies in color densities, Isham continues her exploration of the dematerialization of form in which dominant hues seem to spontaneously assume and dissolve shape as they bleed into their surrounds. Although not soaked and stained into the canvas (according to the modality of certain contemporary artists such as Helen Frankenthaler), Isham effects the look of color becoming one with the surface support. Yet, she avoids the sense of a flattened surface. Instead, Isham creates pictorial dimension, projecting what seems nearly a dream state into vibrant, loosely rendered color statements.
